Pastor Joel Osteen responded (Here) to questions about Mormonism and if it should be called a "Christian" religion.

It's a shame. How can a pastor of a church that hosts approximately 47,000 people each week use the excuse that he doesn't "know enough about the religion's beliefs to comment?"

Statements like these promote Universalism, and they defiantly are not in line with scripture.
Read John 14:6 and then take a minute to think about what Joel-O said…You have to understand that if person doesn’t have a correct view of Jesus, then they don’t have His promises either! Jesus is NOT a “spiritual” brother of the devil, Jesus was not “created” by God, and God the Father was NOT created either.

Why are we losing sight of what is important. The Bible says that it is appointed for a man to die, once, and then judgement. The TRUTH is that we will not be judged according to our works, but according the Law of God (aka the 10 Commandments).

If “Christians” don’t have the salvation of the Jesus Christ of the Bible, then they will not be saved from the Lake of Fire! You can call a Mormon whatever you’d like…Call them a Catholic, call them a Protestant, call them a Baptist, but the bottom line is that unless they truly accept who Jesus is according to the inspired word of God, then they are not Born Again!

What a shame, loving these people to hell. Whose conscience will that be on?

Day #2 - Romans 6 Challange

v. 12-14

Do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

How many times will I leave the door open to sin. I know the damage that these things can cause, and I see the dominion that sin has in the lives of those around me and yet I don't shut the door. Why? I know that I have the power through Christ Jesus to conquer sin, yet I keep the door open.

Father, please give me the strength and wisdom to rid my life of any "cherished" sin. Whether it be the TV shows or movies that I watch. The words that I listen to or say myself. Or even worse may it be the evil thoughts that run through my head. In YOU oh Lord I will find my strength. Change my heart. Teach me to not only love the things that you love, but to also HATE the things that you hate. I am tired of living on "both" sides of the fence. I want to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

May my life be a reflection of not only your grace (forgiveness and love) but may it also be a reflection of your glory.

Day #1 - Romans 6 Challange

Take a snapshot of your life...At any "normal" moment during your day [click] there you go...This is you.

Now, here comes the question. Would you be willing to hang this photo on God's refrigerator?

If you are anything like me, then more often than not the answer to that question would be without hesitation, no.

Why is it that our lives so often mimic the lives of the unsaved? The Bible tells us that we have been "raised from the dead" with Christ. Our old selves have passed away and we have been made "new" creations. So why do we look like everyone else?

Using myself as the example, it would be safe to say that if I were lined up against the wall with a group of non-Christians and all my actions, choices, and words were laid out in front of me, it would be very hard for someone to distinguish me from anyone else.

Why is this? How can this be, if we are new creations in Christ Jesus? Is this Bible wrong? Have we misunderstood scripture?

I say no. I say it is not about the scriptures being invalid, but rather our failure to allow ourselves to truly die to the world that is keeping where we are.

What makes a "Christian" different from the unsaved soul? Is it that we have "accepted" God, or that we "believe" in His existence? This can't be it. Or better yet, maybe it's the fact that as Christians we choose to love God instead of hating Him. But if that is the case, then I challenge you to "prove" this love that you have for your father in heaven.

When I walk down the street and see someone with their "loved" one I know that they are in love. It's not because they have a sign around their neck that says "Property of Stupid" with an arrow. It's because you can see the love written on them. It's in the way they look at one another, it's in the way that they smile at one another, it in the way that they refuse to separate from one another. It is obvious to see their love for each other.

So, if you are truly in love with God, like a lamb that has been saved from the slaughter, then why doesn't your life reflect it? And how can you expect to be "blessed" in this relationship, when you aren't even faithful or true to your God who has so graciously extended his hand of mercy?

You must truly die to this world in order to truly live a God ordained life.

Our tongues: Spewing Praise or Poison?

James 3:1-12

Wow, what a convicting group of verses. How true it is, the damage that can be done with the tongue.

I remember a song that I used to sing often as a kid..."Be careful little mouth what you say". It was a very simple song, but it stressed the importance of watching what we say. How many times have I caught myself saying things that are simply not of God. And how many times have I said those things in front of people that God has placed in my life to be a witness to?

My prayer is that God will help me tame my tongue. When I am frustrated, angry, upset, or simply not in a very good mood. It is my prayer and desire for words of encouragement and praise to fill my lips instead of the poison that so often comes out.

God, teach me to control my tongue. Teach me to bring honor to Your Holy name!

On Love and Marriage

As if the marriage debate wasn't already confusing enough, the state of Washington has decided to make it a little worse.

According to a news release proponents of same-sex marriage have introduced an initiative that would put a new twist on traditional unions between men and women. Apparently this new position on marriage would require heterosexual couples to have children within (3) years of marriage or else have their marriages involuntarily annulled.

"Under I-957, marriage would be limited to men and women who are able to have children. Couples would be required to prove they can have children to get a marriage license, and if they did not have children within three years, their marriages would be subject to annulment.

All other marriages would be defined as "unrecognized" and people in them would be ineligible to receive any marriage benefits."

Here are my thoughts on this issue:

This is obviously an attack on marriage as it stands today in America. The state of Washington already voted to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act (1998), which restricts marriage to unions between a man and woman. This new tactic is simply another avenue by same-sex marriage proponents to show the "discrimination" within the current rules on marriage. These proponents are trying to persuade public opinion on the issue by saying that if marriage (and it's benefits) are only granted to those couples who can procreate, then it should be a requirement for married couples to have children in order to keep their marital status.

By doing this, same-sex marriage proponents will bring-to-the light the truth about the issue at hand, and the truth simply is that America and those who have voted to uphold the ideal of marriage are in favor of a marriage that=1 man + 1 woman.

Here are my fears on this issue:

In the tolerant-pluralistic-relative-politically-correct society in which we live I would not find it hard to believe (at all) that this new initiative by same-sex marriage proponents will find new converts. In a society that crowns Queer as Folk, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Will and Grace, and the "L" Word as great T.V. We can see a major shift in how Americans view homosexuality. When a commercial involving (2) men kissing and feeling less manly for doing so is pulled from the air because it is not sensitive enough for G.L.A.D and other groups, we find that as a society we are becoming more and more careful about not offending the groups which the Bible deems perverse.

This is very frightening. When the black and white lines of the past are now becoming big gray zones we find that the power of persuasion is not so hard. When truth becomes relative, then the absolutes that were so powerful not too long ago lose their depth and no longer have any clout or meaning. These are dangerous times and these are very important issues. Issues in which the church can not simply stand by and remain silent. Get involved in what is happening in the world around you. It is no longer good enough to sit back and talk about how good the old days used to be. The time to take action is now.

Even the Little Things Matter:

I was reading Genesis 24 today (with some audio help) and was really hit hard by this passage of scripture. It really made me question how I handle God's direction in my life. It really made me think about the "spiritual" significance of ignoring God's calling and choosing to make my decisions based on my own selfish desires.

So often I find myself questioning what God wants me to do in and with my life. I always seem to analyze if I am honestly hearing God's voice, or my own thoughts when it comes to the decisions that I have to make. And then there are the times when I know for sure that I hear His voice because of the peace I am given by the Holy Spirit, and yet I still choose not to listen because I don't like the direction in which I am being called.

I honestly believe that God will give us clear direction at certain points in our lives, and it is very important that we follow His revelations to us. The reason that it is so important to follow God's direction is because there are other points in our lives when God's direction is not so clear, and it is at these times that we can look back to how God has directed our lives in the past for "guidance" on how to handle our current situations.

If we choose to ignore God's voice with some of the "silly-little” things that He is calling us to, where are we going to turn for direction in the larger issues that we will have to face?

Our Needs vs. Our Greed

And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:19

So many times God has shown Himself to me. He has provided me with all my "needs" and even some of the desires of my heart. I am continually reminded, just when I begin to feel sorry for myself, how I need to find my satisfaction in God's promise to be my provider.

Paul tells us in the verse listed above that God will supply us with all of our needs. However, this does not mean that he will supply us with all of our "greeds" (borrowed without permission from: Pastor Gregg Laurie).

It is easy for us to look at the people around us and what they have, and then start to desire those things for ourselves. Whether it is the latest iPod, computer, cell phone or clothes, so often we find ourselves tangled in the mess of materialistic things. It is important for us to remember that often times these things are nothing more than distractions put in our path by the devil to keep us away from what God is trying to do in our lives.

I challenge you to take a look at your life, and reflect on the desires of your heart. Take a serious look at what it is that you truly want. Now look at this passage in scripture and evaluate if your desires are lining up with God's word.

Like me, you might find yourself shocked to see how "greedy" you have become in your expectations from God.

The good news is, it is never too late to change.
